New Humanscale Path: World’s Most Sustainable Office Chair
Humanscale is declaring that their Path Chair is the world’s most sustainable office chair design. In this blog, we’re looking at exactly what makes it an eco-conscious choice and comparing it to their other sustainable designs, such as the Ocean Chair.
In October, they became the first company ever to have not just one, but 26 climate, water, and energy positive products. This has earned them the prestigious Planet Positive Award. The company is all about creating a measurable impact.
With the Ocean Chair, they transformed plastic waste found in the ocean into the fabric of their office chair. Each chair is made with almost two pounds of recycled fishing net material.
The Humanscale Path Chair is not just advanced on the environmental front. The furniture brand has also worked meticulously to perfect the ergonomics that they’re renowned for. Regardless of height or weight, their chairs are self-adjusting and tailored for the individual.
“At Humanscale our philosophy is centred around masking a net positive impact on the Earth and our customers.”
Bob King, Founder and CEO of Humanscale
What makes the Humanscale Path Chair a sustainable choice?
Upcycled plastic bottles
Each chair contains almost 10 pounds of ocean plastic. Humanscale’s FormSense Eco Knit is a mesh-like textile providing self-adjusting lumbar support. The yarn is made with 100% post-consumer recycled polyester from upcycled plastic bottles. Since it is knit exactly to the shape of the chair, it eliminates the need for cutting or sewing, and creates zero waste.
Designed with longevity in mind
It’s difficult to find an office chair that will look great after 10 years of heavy use. But Humanscale tests their chairs beyond the industry standards to ensure longevity. What’s more, parts are replaceable, so you don’t have to replace the entire chair.
Minimal design with no excess parts
The Path Chair is also designed with no excess parts. Manufacturing materials are minimal, with little to no waste.
“Path is not simply an exercise in aesthetics or an assembly of pre-existing components, rather it is ground up mechanical invention, material innovation, coupled with next-level sustainability.”
Todd Bracher, Path Designer
